Bets are that you haven’t been able to walk into a shop, or have a scroll on Asos without coming across a jewel toned item of corduroy.

Last winter my friends laughed at me as I text them raving about my brand-new purchase of some navy cord flares. Well who’s laughing now folks. Corduroy is everywhere. These 70s trends have made a comeback, which I am utterly grateful for.

Potentially a tough material to tackle without looking like your grandpa or wacky art teacher. However, the high street has come up with some very wearable options, whether you dare the flare or not. The classic cord jackets with sheepskin trim appeared all over the streets last autumn and winter and if you’re looking for an everyday cord piece, this is probably your answer.

However, inspired by the Sunday times style last week, I think it’s worth getting a little more daring, such as with this burnt orange blazer from H&M.

If you’re really feeling super 70s wear with the matching trousers, but for casual day wear you could rock it with denim and a plain tee.

If you don’t feel like making such a statement, Topshop has some cute corduroy skirts/pinafore dresses that would look very autumnal with cosy knitwear.

There is just something about the buttery soft feel of corduroy that makes it so comforting, not to mention it’s a lot warmer than denim. Pairing it with a fluffy knitted jumper and boots, it doesn’t get more seasonal than this.

So, have a browse, and whip out your student cards to follow in the fashion footsteps of blogger Olivia Purvis and Alexa Chung.

I think it’s time for me to dust off those navy cord flares!
