The Gryphon is Leeds University Union’s official student publication. As one of the oldest societies on campus, we began our journey in 1897, and we are now regarded as one of the most successful student newspapers in the country.
As an independent media outlet, we are here to hold the University and the Union to account where possible. We also provide a range of content that is of interest to students and residents of Leeds.
The likes of Observer food critic Jay Rayner, Guardian deputy national editor Polly Curtis, BBC Royal Correspondent Nicholas Witchell and Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre have passed through our office doors, and our more recent editors have gone on to write for The Independent, The Times and The Guardian.
Whether you’re new to the practice or a seasoned journalist, you are welcome to join our team! We have eleven sections across our publication The Gryphon and our arts supplement In The Middle, which allows you to write about whatever you want, whenever you want. We offer training, workshops and one-to-one feedback for those looking to shape their writing style. We also welcome those with an interest in design, photography, illustration and marketing!
