“The room was alive and was filled with so much colour and community.”
I don’t think I’ve ever waited in a queue as long as I had for Lorde. But I’ll tell you now, it was worth it. She spread such emotion, energy and excitement throughout every member of the crowd at the o2 on Sunday night with her effortless performance.
Starting the night off was her support act, Khalid. He warmed up the crowds with his catchy tunes. One in particular, ‘Young Dumb & Broke’, provoked many cheers and smiles from the audience and I can see why – he sang with ease and confidence and certainly provided refreshing music.
And finally there she was. Lorde embraced the stage with old as well as new songs such as ‘Team’, ‘Supercut’ and ‘Green Light’. She even covered Phil Collins’ legendary In the Air Tonight, which was pretty immense might I add. Oh Lorde.
Personal highlight of the night you ask? Most definitely her performance of ‘Liability’. She introduced the song with a brief backstory telling the crowd how it was for anyone who has been told that they are “too much.” Lorde filled the room with so much emotion and absolute raw talent. No wonder I teared up…
Of course she sung ‘Royals’, to which everybody (and I actually mean everybody) belted out the lyrics or had a little boogie. The room was alive and was filled with so much colour and community. Lorde’s stage props were pretty lit – like actually lit. She had funky lights which flared all sorts of colours and really seemed quite delicate and gorgeous. Even her dancers were angelic and complimented each song.
All in all, an incredible gig. The crowd were mad for it, I already want to see her perform again. So Lorde, when are you coming to Leeds?
