In The Middle with Ghadimi

Blessed by an abundance of talent in the local area, In The Middle has set its sights on uncovering some of the finest unsigned and small-label artists in Yorkshire and beyond, in a showcase of the acts we’re looking forward to seeing grow over the next few years.

This week sees In the Middle delve into the works of our very own kind – 18-year-old University of Leeds student, Ghadimi.

Experimenting with an ingenious patchwork of sound, the musical creations of Ghadimi plunge into the realm of ambient trap, creating tunes with an effortlessly unique touch. At a time of dubstep craze, Ghadimi began producing music at just 15 years old using musical software FL Studio, inspired by artists such as Coki, Mala & Skream. Now producing slowed down tunes to chill to, an impressive SoundCloud collection see’s him slow down the tempo, constructing spookily sounding tracks that are abnormally creative and pleasurable to listen to.

Most recent track ‘New Guns’ perfectly demonstrates what producers are all about – being as outrageously experimental and original as possible. As a beautiful mash up of hand picked sounds, each listen unveils something new, be it a peculiar lyrical tone, slowed down loop or glitchy automated beat.

‘I Need U’ is yet another wonderfully twisted masterpiece. Like the most perfect recipe and similar to the likes of TNGHT, the repeated vocal loop and FX intertwined throughout the track add that distinct edge.

As well as his own material he has also remixed many artists, from Usher to Fergie to Jeremih. His take on Henry Green’s cover of ‘Electric Feel’ (MGMT) strips down the pace whilst maintaining that characteristic Ghadimi stamp, ideal for those late nights or 5am morning returns.

We asked Ghadimi about his recent beginnings, spilling the beans on his early influences with a few killer artists.

“Definitely my favourite track of all time. Burial is so creative in his songs, auto-tuning RnB vocals and twisting them into an industrial sounding track”.

“Shlohmo is another unparalleled producer. He manages to create perfect songs out of old synthesizers and 808 drums, something that is incredibly hard to do well.”

Be the first to hear about the latest tiptop tunes and all things great from the upcoming Ghadimi by following him on Bandcamp and SoundCloud. We definitely will be.
