It may well have been two year’s since the release of The Travelling Band’s 2011 album ‘Screaming is Something’ but rest assured young travellers, they’re back and more excited than ever.
Following the release of new EP ‘Hands Up’, which came out just a few short weeks ago, the band ‘Just can’t wait to get back out on the road, I think we’ve all got cabin fever’. Ahead of a long stint of tour dates; 24 to be exact, Leeds Student spoke to lead vocalist Adam Gorman about getting back to touring, Leeds’ music scene and ever important festival appearances.
First coming to our attention back in 2008 with their debut album ‘Under The Pavement’, The Travelling Band’s folk influence has been bringing a different and less familiar sound out of the Mancunian music scene that we tend to look upon with such a typecast. Stereotype From the up-beat ‘Only Waiting’ to the more bluesey ‘Barmaid’, The Travelling Band do not appear to let their Mancunian roots to sway them musically. Its heritage folk nonetheless, with hinted accents bringing nothing less an authentic charm to their well-crafted lyrics.
Ahead of their gig at Brudenell Social Club on March 8th, The Travelling Band really seems excited to be back in Leeds. ‘Its [Brudenell] a great venue, we’ve been there a few times’, recalling memories of past gigs they themselves have attended in one of Leeds’ most beloved music venues. Yet with such expectations of their ever-familiar alternative folk sound, it may come as somewhat of a surprise to be told to ‘expect more electrics’.
The Travelling Band will be supported on tour by Ellen & The Escapades, who are good friends of the band. ‘We played with them [Ellen & The Escapades] in Oporto in Leeds a very good while back and it made sense to do some gigs together!’. Speaking of the Leeds music scene, Gorman admits his little knowledge, but still recognises Ellen & The Escapades as a ‘great band’ and a good example of what Leeds has to offer musically.
The eager mentions of festival exclusives will almost never be confirmed. Of course The Travelling Band will be playing at various festivals this summer, but until now it remains a fact that ‘we’re not allowed!’, except of course for the confirmation of their most excitedly awaited appearance at Glastonbury this summer.
