The colourful indie-pop band with a flair for the unusual, Bad Sounds are taking over after the release of their debut album Get Better. Their first EP, PHRESSSH succinctly summed up the band’s energy and introduced them to the world. Get Better was released this year and includes favourites such as ‘Evil Powers’ and ‘Avalanche’, adding to their thousands of monthly listeners on Spotify.
Brothers Ewan and Callum Merrett are the face of the band, with other members including Olivia, Sam and Charlie. In interviews they come across as humble yet confident, knowing what Bad Sounds stands for and where they want to be. Until recently they all worked other jobs, but due to their growing success they decided to take the plunge and commit to the band, a risk that has already paid off.
‘Wages’, one of their most popular and catchy songs, was featured on FIFA 18 and was declared the hottest record in the world by Radio 1’s Annie Mac. In some ways Bad Sounds are a cool contradiction, having both an instantly recognisable sound as well as evading categorisation, merging genres such as pop and hip-hop. As a five-piece band they bring different influences to the table, ranging from De la Soul to Michael Jackson.
Their music exudes an entertainment factor that is infectious, from their funky music videos to lively performances. Their down-to-earth vibe comes through in their humorous music videos, such as their use of a green screen to put them into iconic martial arts films for ‘Wages’. Their live performances promise to be just as playful as their great chemistry translates to them having fun on stage. They have supported bands such as Superfood, and while you can see the connection, Bad Sounds have formed their own look, style and energy.
Catch Bad Sounds on one of their UK tour dates this Autumn if you don’t want to miss a memorable and immersive gig.
