With winter fast approaching and rainclouds looming overhead, panic buying three pairs of the same black jeans and twenty grey chunky knits may seem like a viable option. Fear not – it is possible to avoid looking like a pig in a blanket during the cold and dreary months.
Patent
Patent has dominated the catwalk this season, all about look-at-me colour, texture and statement shapes. Unlike some materials (I’m looking at you, suede), patent boots are perfect for combatting the rain, staying shiny and stylish as ever even throughout a day riddled with puddles. Black is practical, but it’s all about red patent, from pillar box to intense scarlet. Be brave and go glossy.
Faux Leather
Faux leather trousers have also made a huge comeback for winter, pairing perfectly with a variety of textures and materials, adding something more to an outfit than the usual plain black jeans. A pair of black leather pants can be played down and worn with a cream cable knit and a long overcoat, along with patent heeled boots and a hat during the day to keep out the cold and wet. This is a very versatile look, easily convertible from day to night by throwing on a cropped long-sleeve and a rain mac – unless you’re a Northerner born and bred, in which case of course a coat on a night out won’t even enter your mind!
Bold Print
Finally, the ultimate fashion statement this winter: bold print. By far the easiest and best way to brighten up the grey days that are ahead of us, eye-catching prints have seduced the nation and taken over the high street. Cure your rainy day blues by accessorising with leopard print and retro patchwork arm candy. This winter is certainly not one for wallflowers…paint the town with colour (but do it with dry feet) and wish away the rain.
