Five societies at LUU have been shortlisted for awards at the National Society Awards 2017, with the winners due to be announced at a ceremony in Nottingham next week.
The Women’s Hockey society have been shortlisted for the biggest award of the night, Best Society, while the Women in Leadership Society have been shortlisted for Best New Society as well as Best Campaigning society.
The Gryphon has been shortlisted for Best Media Society and Most Improved Society, while Vertical Fitness have been nominated for Best Community Contribution.
Ahlul Bayt Islamic society has been shortlisted for best Faith and Cultural Society.
The National Society Awards is only in its second year, after being formed in 2016 at UWE Bristol, and this year’s event is set to take place at Nottingham Student Union on Friday 19th May.
The awards aim to celebrate the amazing work carried out by societies nationwide, and give societies from different universities a chance to meet and network with each other.
Taiwo Ogunyinka, Activities Officer at Leeds University Union, said: “That five of our societies have been shortlisted for six national society awards is testament to the incredible efforts of all staff and volunteers at LUU to deliver a range of inclusive and diverse activities to the student body. I firmly believe the chosen deserve to be there after working with them and their committees this year so a big heartfelt congratulations to them!”
Keep up to date with The Gryphon to find out who will scoop this year’s awards.
