UML Gig Picks of the Week

Akala- Sunday 22nd November – Hifi Club – Free – 10:00pm

Playing at Hifi’s weekly Sunday Joint event, Akala & Live Band will be playing a mashup of Hip Hop, Funk, Soul and Reggae tracks. It’ll be a guaranteed night of dancing into the wee hours of the morning, perfect for those who haven’t come to terms with the fact it’s Monday again.

 

Chelsea Wolfe – Tuesday 24th November – Brudenell Social Club – £12.50 – 7:30pm

Chelsea Wolfe is a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles. Her experimental and surrealist style encompasses a gothic mix of folk, electronica and metal that suits her etherial stage presence. Playing at the Brudenell Social Club in the light of her latest album, Abyss, it will be an extremely atmospheric gig of ‘cathedral rock’ and hauntingly soft vocals.

 

Ought – Friday 27th November – Brudenell Social Club – £12- 7:30pm

Ought are a four-piece, post-punk rock band from Montreal, Canada. Their latest album, Sun Coming Down has the punchiness and warped electric guitar jams of Parquet Courts with the lyrical style of The Fall’s Mark E Smith. They will be playing alongside support from the Danish punk band, Yung, and American experimental pop artist Naytronix.

 

Nubiyan Twist – Saturday 28th November – Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen – £8.50 (adv) – 8:00pm

Nubiyan Twist are a 12-piece hiphop/jazz/afro-beat/neo-soul collective that formed in Leeds College of Music in 2011. It will be a fun, feel-good night of brass, drums, bass, guitars, DJ’s and percussion. With support from Soul Rebel DJs and their sounds of hiphop, latin funk and reggae, complimenting the exciting main act.
