Make America Psycho Again by Fall Out Boy

Fall Out Boy have released a remix of American Beauty/American Psycho less than a year from the album’s official release.

In an obvious attempt to recreate the sound of the Kanye West remix of ‘This Aint A Scene, It’s An Arms Race’, Make America Psycho Again is even more disappointing as the album it’s remixing. The album does nothing but remind me of a band that is trying to become relevant again, with a huge emphasis on production that does the original songs no favors.

Most of the songs are remixed with your go-to rappers such as Juicy J, A$AP Ferg and Joey Bada$$ who lack relevance today except for features like these. The rappers’ verses are bland, unmemorable and fail to make an impact.

A few songs do really come together in the way that Fall Out Boy intend them to, the most memorable being ‘Uma Thurman’ with Wiz Khalifa, which could end up being the only song by the band capable of being played somewhere that isn’t The Key Club or Fuel in Leeds. The opening track ‘Irresistable’ remixed with Migo plays well and in ‘The Kid’s Aren’t Alright’, Azaelia Banks rap verse integrates well with the rest of the song, the only shame being that Banks’ verse is quickly forgotten due to its position at the start of the song. ‘Fourth of July’ with the hip-hop beat sounds a lot better than in the original album and the vocals remind me of Fall Out Boy’s older material, however Og Maco’s verse drags on and adds nothing positive to the song.

I would be very surprised if the album does better than the original AB/AP release and considering the 2.5 star rating on iTunes I can’t see that happening any time soon.
