Home grown Leeds based Klezmer band TANTZ are launching their debut album ‘Voytek The Bear’ here in Leeds this Thursday. They studied at Leeds College of Music, and TANTZ was formed in 2012, fittingly after an epic pub crawl, which explains where their party spirit came from.
TANTZ have had a busy summer playing at festivals such as Bestival, Secret Garden Party and Kendal Calling to name but a few. They’re midway through their ten date UK tour, and they’re stopping off in Leeds for the album launch party at the Belgrave Music Hall.
The six piece band are comprised of guitar, bass, drums, violin, percussion and a clarinet, that blend Eastern European Folk with dub, hiphop and Balkan beats. Describing their sound as ‘Frenzied hyper Klezmer’ they keep the fast driving beats but with a modern twist. They ooze showman ship and musical virtuoso talent, and are not to be missed considering they’re only in Leeds a couple of times a year.
They’ve had critical acclaim from BBC Introducing; with Leeds presenter Alan Raw warning you to ‘prepare to dance till it nearly does you in’ and they were selected as the finale act at the 2014 Brit Awards After party. More than just a gig, TANTZ know how to bring the party to life. If you’re looking to have your spirits lifted by an upbeat Gypsy disco band, head down to the Belgrave before nine to witness a feverish display of Klezmer magic.
