Spring King @ Headrow House 11/10

Zane Lowe’s very first Beats 1 play, Teen Choice award nominees, Spring King have certainly had a crazy year. After touring with the likes of Circa Waves and Courtney Barnett, Spring King are ready made headliners for Beacons Metro at Headrow House, with support from the wild and bizarrely endearing Parrots.

Providing magical 3D glasses, which turned light into hearts, it is clear Spring King aren’t any ordinary post-punk four piece. Famed Zane-Lowe-Approved single ‘City’ is a snarling beast, spewing blistering lyrics and boasting out-of-control riffs. Of course this is the most recognized song by the crowd, but other singles from EP They’re Coming After You such as the fiery and flamboyant ‘Dream Boy’ and the slow burning title track both get the crowd going with ease.

Lead singer and cap-enthusiast Tarek Musa seems to have an unlimited amount of gratitude and thanks for their success and support, especially tonight. However, despite being stunned by the response to their relatively small collection of fantastic songs, he still manages to shake off spilling a pint all over himself with a perfect mix of front man bravado and typical British humility. Spring King are certainly not used to this level of adoration from fans – they started mosh pits at Reading & Leeds and pulled off sublime sets at Field Day and Truck Festival this summer whilst still recording songs in Tarek’s bathroom in July.

Despite featuring in the likes of Q Magazine, USA Today and Entertainment Magazine, and on top of being Teen Choice Awards nominees, Spring King haven’t changed. They are still a down to earth post-punk four piece with huge potential; a debut album is highly anticipated.
