Following a launch party to remember back in January with the likes of acid master Tin Man, as well as major bookings such as Matt Walsh in May, ALTER once again made sure that theirs would be a night unlike any other that Leeds has to offer.

Friday 16th October saw none other than Mathew Jonson play a live set to an eager crowd at MiNT, expertly showcasing his effortless ability to mix and match an array of melodies and sounds to create a unique analog listening experience; his sound is very much his own.

It is rare to see a DJ enjoying themselves so much whilst playing out – Jonson clearly loved every second and took the dance floor on a mind bending trip through the darker realms of experimental techno. After finishing with a live version of the killer track Marionette it left the crowd wanting more – the hour and a half set seemed far too short.

Jonson was followed by fellow Berliner, Efdemin (Phillip Sollmann). Known for his crunching kick drums and deep and hypnotic melodies, the last decade has seen Efdemin work his way through Detroit house inspired sounds through to a more German minimalist techno approach. As to be expected, he was the perfect follow up to such Jonson’s energy packed set; Efdemin fed the crowd the heavy, gritty techno it desired.

Alter co-founder and resident Animist wrapped the evening (or morning) up again, powering the remaining dance floor veterans through until the end with Floorplan’s Never Grow Old making a playful appearance.

Overall the night delivered exactly as it promised; MiNT club being the perfect setting. The next Alter night is in just under a month and will see Berghain resident Answer Code Request (Ostgut Ton) and Klockworks’s Trevino, along with a post punk techno inspired live set from Kamera. If Friday was anything to go by, this will not be a night to be missed by electronic music fans across Leeds.
