This Saturday will not see your usual programming of tech-house and techno DJs at the Harrison Street club, but a line-up that will excite many of Leeds’ party-goers nonetheless. Drummer Erik Bodin and bassist Fredrik Kallgren Wallin of Sweden’s synth-pop four-piece, Little Dragon will be headlining the ‘MiNT Presents’ evening with support from Leon Vynehall and local DJs TMS and Reece Platts. A beautiful and somewhat unlikely marriage that should prove to be out of this world.
More commonly found performing as a live group to fans in muddy British fields, Saturday will allow many to see a side to Little Dragon that they have not before. Having started almost 20 years ago, releasing 4 studio albums and collaborating with the likes of SBTRKT, Bodin and Wallin will undoubtedly have much to draw from their admirable record collections and collaborations to get MiNT in full-party swing, beneath the technicolour-ceiling.
Leon Vynehall will be a more familiar name for both the venue and clubbers alike. Over the past 4 years Vynehall has carved himself a place on the scene with a string of dance floor cuts that have combined silky soulful vocal samples over percussion with a rough edge to them. They could be equally at home played on a Sunday afternoon in your living room as getting blasted out at peak time on the weekend. First hand experience of Move D playing two of Vynehall’s releases at Gottwood over the summer, showed me their almost unparalleled blissful effect on a dancefloor.
If you’re still making plans for this weekend, MiNT is arguably the best to offer and should be one to remember – see you there.
