Police are appealing for information following a spate of distinctive graffiti drawings on campus which some students have suggested represents a vagina.

Several drawings have been spotted in locations including the Edward Boyle library and further afield in Hyde Park since February. They are now being investigated as criminal damage.

The Gryphon reported last month on the appearance of the symbol, which depicts a pointed oval-shape containing a squiggle. The representation of the drawing is unknown.

PCSO Mark Sneideris posted, ‘The person responsible for this tag is sought in connection with several criminal damage occurrences in the Leeds University grounds.’

‘If you can help with any information with regards to who it belongs to, please ring 101 and quote crime reference number 13150094319.’

Students also told this newspaper that they have seen the graffiti in the Old Bar toilets and near Leeds Station.

A University spokesperson said, ‘As graffiti is classed as criminal damage, it is reported to the police and, because this is a recognisable tag, it will have been assigned to a specific unit that deals with incidents of this type’.

They confirmed that the drawing has been found in various internal and external locations on campus.
