Protesters gather to honour Chapel Hill victims

A group of students have gathered outside of LUU to protest against the lack of media coverage given to the Chapel Hill shooting victims.

Shaddy Barakat, wife Yusor Mohammad and her sister Razan were shot dead in their home in North Carolina.

The collective, lead by Broadcast Journalism student Abla Klaa, carried posters in solidarity with the victims.

Their neighbour, Craig Hicks, has been arrested on account of third-degree murder.

The group noted the distinct lack of coverage given to the victims of this tragedy, and noted that the national media’s bias towards depicting members of the Muslim community as extremists.

An honour of a minute’s silence was paid to Shaddy, Yusor and Razan during the campaign.
