Action is a student led volunteering society, which has been running for 10 years. They run projects with children and older people in the local community and do everything from playing bingo in a care home to taking young careers bowling.
Projects include:
Reach – accompany children aged 12-16 who have learning difficulties away for fun weekend residentials.
Re-generation – visit a local care home once a week and organise various activities with the residents.
Little London Crazy Club – Lead a weekly after school club, running a variety of activities such as arts and crafts and games.
Membership: It is free to sign up. You need to complete a DBS check (forms available at Activities Reception) and then sign up for training.
Why get involved?: Give back to the local community. Action has so many projects, which work with many different people in the local area, there is something to suit everyone. You can try different projects to see which ones you enjoy the most and don’t have to commit to everything.
The Society said “We benefit the local community from local schools to care homes. However, we also benefit the individuals who volunteer, as this society is a great way to meet new students and do something different.”
Interesting Fact: They are the only Action society in the UK.
