Sometimes it is too late once you have committed to a degree and half way through realizing you want to go into fashion. You can’t really swap or you don’t know what bit of fashion you want to do. Is it fashion journalism or styling? Or do you actually want to get into designing? Luckily, with the help of online study and the blessed time of summer holidays there are a range of short courses out there to choose from.
We have brought to you together the finest of the crop to show what you can still apply for if you want to get into fashion the easy way.
- Fashion Retail Academy
This is the ultimate short course heaven. At the London College of Fashion with courses from Fashion Brand Management to Producing Your Own Fashion Label, all these courses are approximately seven weeks long and cost you roughly £350. The best part is that for the same amount of time and money you can do the next level course the following summer to gain more experience. Our favourite is of course the Introduction To Fashion Journalism. At £295 for 3 weeks this intensive course gives you insights to blogging, following trends and making fantastic contacts. Though you have a lesson at the college once a week, and this means going to London which can be expensive, we just see it as an excuse to see a friend down there more often.
- Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design
With affiliation to Vogue and taught by Vogue writers, this course is your ticket into the world of fashion. That also explains the price. The Vogue Intensive Summer Course is a four-week intensive study of fashion and at £3,480 it is one you would need to save up for. However, that said this course touches on everything. From journalism to styling it provides an exceptional experience that is worth every penny. Alternatively, you could try their one-week course in Fashion Journalism at £800, but with the benefits of the full month one, this college provides you with some amazing fashion insight.
- Central Saint Martins College of Arts & Design, University of the Arts London
The University of the Arts London offers 20 varied courses in fashion. From portfolio making to marketing there are fantastic tasters to different aspects of the industry. Each course is 8 weeks long with online material and an interactive live lesson either in the evening or daytime depending on the course. It is completely online so there is no need to travel to London, and at £425 you get a great insight into your chosen area. The flexibility these courses offer are fantastic for term time as well. so if you can’t wait to get started, this is ideal. Though these courses may not provide the depth the other two offers it is ideal for the busy student.
