Let’s take a moment to introduce Audio Chronicles, one of our favourite new nights on the Leeds scene this year. Hosted once a month at the super-chic Baby Jupiter, a basement bar in Leeds’ city centre, Audio Chonicles offer an eclectic music policy which joins the dots between all things groove, house, soul, disco, hip-hop, techno and beyond.
We caught up with founders and residents Amy Alford and Alex Ogilvie ahead of their second party this Saturday, and gave them the impossible task of picking out 5 of their essential tunes.
Amy Alford
Head High – Power Seat
Head High aka Shed to me is one of the most inspirational producers. The Megatrap EP was a life changing purchase.
DJ Bone – We Control The Beat
Not one for the faint hearted – We Control the Beat is 8 minutes of fist pumping galore. I bow down to the Bone.
Boogie Nite – Words
Freerotation 2014. Dressed as a drug baron, dancing with a blow up crocodile.
Floorplan – We Never Grow Old
Taken off the powerful Paradise LP – This track is both euphoric and pumping, both qualities that are vital in my sets. Floorplan aka Robert Hood, produces the purest emotive techno. Yassss.
Deep Dish ft Everything But The Girl – The Future Of The Future
Ah the 90’s, Mum was a Hard House and Trance DJ and Dad was a huge Everything But The Girl fan. Mum + Dad = The Above. Everything But The Girl is a mixture of house and drum ‘n’ bass infused tracks topped with Tracey Thorns vocals – pure bliss. Highly recommended to put a smile on your face.
Alex Ogilvie
Sylvester – Over and Over
A classic from the Paradise Garage and actually the tune we closed down the first Audio Chronicles party last month with. 9+ minutes of pure groove, swaying strings, slick horns and a great vocal too. Lot of love for this one.

George Benson – The World Is A Ghetto
One of George Benson’s finest moments. A great little hook and groove (check out Secret Society – Our Society to hear the sample opened up into a wicked house tune) but it’s really all about GB’s guitar solo on this one. Fond memories of Theo Parrish dropping this on his last visit to Leeds.
Horace Silver – The Sophisticated Hippie
Had to pick one at least one jazz track and seen as I had no idea which direction to go in (Miles, Coltrane, Hancock, Blakey etc.) I figured I’d pick something I’ve been playing recently. This is probably my favourite Horace Silver tune and with his sad recent passing it definitely deserves a mention. Essential. RIP.
Graef & Seibt – Kotschleuder
New school house, old school flavour. Dusty, swinging house from the man who can do no wrong, Max Graef. I was sold from the opening Chaka Kahn horn sample…
House Of Jazz – Hold Your Head Up
A bumpin’ house groover, with soft Rhodes and the perfect swing beat. With the stamp of approval from Moodymann amongst others it’s not a surprise I love this.
