We Are Scientists
Stylus
4/5

Hailing from New York, indie rock band We are Scientists, currently on their world tour, played Stylus in Leeds as their third stop. They played a packed out show with fans that did not stop dancing for a single song, perhaps reflecting the energy of the band themselves.

The set began with some of their best known singles such as ‘Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt’ and ‘This Scene is Dead’, before transitioning into album tracks and rounding off into more of their classic singles ‘Nice Guys’ and ‘The Great Escape’. With the tempo never dropping, it was catchy chorus after catchy chorus, a good mix of classic and less well-known,working altogether brilliantly as a set.

Keith Murray (lead vocals and guitar) and Chris Cain (bass and backing vocals) had a brilliant repertoire which included cracking jokes in between songs, laughing along with the audience and most spectacularly playing along when the crowd chanted “down it” as Chris pulled out a half-finished bottle of wine he had been sipping. He in fact managed to do it before launching into another song. The comedy between these two was a contrast between the seriousness of their music. It was a refreshing experience to have a comedy set in between the enjoyment of their music.
