The Union hosted its biggest student-led event ever last Saturday as the building was transformed into a winter festival.

Over 1,000 students attended Bacchanalia, with hundreds of students being turned away at the door.

The event was a joint charity event hosted by Leeds Snowriders and RAG. So far, it has raised more than £5, 500 for ‘Dying to Keep Warm’, an organisation which provides emergency provisions to people vulnerable to the cold, fires, gas leaks and carbon monoxide poisoning.

The event, which marked the beginning of the Union’s 75th anniversary celebrations, featured the popular Gin & Juice DJs, among several other performers who took over Stylus. Mine was also remodelled as a German Bierkeller hall.

Second year Broadcast Journalism student, Lucinda Hurst tweeted at the event: ‘Went for a wee and came back to everyone dancing on tables… That escalated quickly!’

Union Affairs Officer, Bradley Escorcio told LS: “I’m incredibly proud of everyone who helped pull off the sell-out charity event and excited at the prospect of it returning, bigger and better, next year.”

Holly Minns, Director of Bacchanalia,  told LS: “The whole thing went fantastically, it turned out better than we could ever have expected.”
