Music | Focus on: Field Day 2014

It will be no surprise to many of you that festivals are often a huge part of any student’s summer plans so here at LSi over the next few weeks and months, we’re going to take you through what we think are the must attend festivals. We’ll point out what to see and where to see it, making sure you get the pointers on the very best happenings at home and further afield.

This week, we turn our attention to Field Day Festival which takes place in Victoria Park, London over the weekend of the 7th and 8th of June. Since 2007, when Battles, Erol Alkan and Justice headlined, Field Day has grown massively and this year’s line-up perfectly illustrates this growth in its reputation.

Specifically, Saturday’s line up is an impressive one which will surely be attractive to plenty of students in Leeds. Metronomy headline on the back of their soon to be released and much anticipated fourth album ‘Love Letters’ and they are joined by SBTRKT who will be returning to Field Day to treat the crowd to a new live set. Other notable performers on Saturday include Mercury Music Prize Nominee Ghostpoet, Australian dance/neo psychedelic duo Jagwar Ma and super artist/producer/songwriter and Field Day alumni Blood Orange aka Dev Hynes.

If that wasn’t enough, Sunday night sees seminal band Pixies headlining their only London show and they will be joined by the brilliant psychedelic-voyagers The Horrors, who are currently completing final mixes for their elevating, fourth album, to be released this spring. British trippy retro-futurists Temples and psych-rocking Australian act POND are also included with more acts to be added very soon.
