News | Students call for page 3 ban

A student has submitted an idea to the Better Union forum to ban Page Three from the building.

The latest ideas have been put forward as part of the Better University, Better Union and Better Leeds forums this week, including a motion for an ‘asexual awareness week’ and another relating to potential cuts to the School of Healthcare.

In 2012, Harriet Rankin, the  Union’s Welfare Officer, attempted to get rid of ‘lads’ mags’. The motion was pitched to the Better Union Forum as a protest against the objectification of women.

The idea went to referendum after a decision of five yes’ and nine no’s meant a consensus could not be reached.

Around campus, the idea sparked controversy over the freedom of student choice.
