A student narrowly escaped serious injury this week after she was hit by a car while crossing the road outside the Business School.
History student Freya Potter was walking over the pedestrian crossing on Moorland Road with two friends when a car drove through a red light and struck her.
Despite Miss Potter’s arm snapping off the wing mirror of the car, she escaped the accident without serious injuries.
The driver stayed on the scene until the ambulance arrived, allegedly blaming the traffic lights for the accident.
Potter told LS: “It was all such a blur, at first I was in shock but then I was just relieved it wasn’t more serious. I was lucky that people were there to help and that the driver stopped.”
Community Officer Frankie O’Byrne told LS: “It’s important to be alert when crossing the road – it’s easy to get distracted by your phone or by friends but this is when accidents can happen.”
When asked if more could be done to protect pedestrians around the Business School, Potter said “as it’s such a busy road perhaps more could be done to enforce the speed limit.”
