News | Student assaulted in City Centre

A student has been assaulted while on a night out in Leeds City Centre.

The attack took place at approximately 12:45am on Saturday opposite the White Rose Leeds Met campus.

It is thought police chased the assailant away from the scene. The attacker was apprehended by a police officer shortly after the incident took place.

A second year Meteorology and Climate Science student who witnessed the incident posted to Facebook after the assault took place, saying: “Witnessed my first police chase after a gang knocked down an innocent student – and they caught them too! Big up for West Yorkshire police.”

She later added: “You can imagine how scary the walk home was.”

The attacker, a 17 year old from Harehills, appeared in Leeds Youth Court on Monday October 21, charged with Section 39 common assault and assaulting a police constable in the execution of his duty.

The youth was granted conditional bail and will reappear at the same court for a trial on January 9, 2014.
