The mysterious Charles Morris Baguette Thief struck an unexpecting diner in the Refectory last Thursday. The unidentified thief stole a £3.65 gourmet sandwich from a diner who had “no idea what happened.”

The prankster set up a Facebook account under his alias to taunt his victim. According to the profile, the culprit is a male residing in Leeds, whose interests are “baguette”, education “baguette” and hometown “Baguette” (a genuine Haitian place of the same name).

The victim aired their grievances via the popular ‘Leeds Uni: Spotted on campus’, writing: “I don’t know who you are, I don’t know what you want, but what I can tell you is that I have a particular set of skills; skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you give the baguette up now that will be the end of it; I will not pursue you.”

The Baguette Thief replied to the threat, which attracted over 300 likes, with: “Someone clearly hasn’t had a baguette in a while…!”

Speaking to LS, a source described the incident as a “flat joke”, adding: “the people that were in on it were going to post a ransom video as well which would’ve been brilliant.” Rumours as to the joker’s identity are circulating on the ‘Spotted’ page, although the identities of both the Baguette Thief and his victim remain unknown. The baguette has since been returned to its rightful owner.
