Sport | Met out for revenge after Varsity defeat

After a sparse week of BUCS home fixtures, Leeds play host to some of the most competitive fixtures in their sporting calendar.

First up, in the Premier North A, the Rugby Union Men’s XV take on overall BUCS leaders Durham in their second game of the season.

Leeds will be looking to build on their Beaumont-inspired away victory over Northumbria last week, which leaves them behind only leaders Newcastle, who benefit from having played twice in the last week.

The Gryphons’ lead over Durham, who reside in third, is held only through a bonus point, despite last season’s champions letting loose on Nottingham last week in a 44-13 victory.

Durham will provide a sterner test for Leeds, who will be keen to battle on their home turf at Weetwood.

As their match draws to a close, the keenest of Gryphons fan would head back to the Sports Centre for the Netball clash with Newcastle.

Finishing just one place behind the Tynesiders last season, this will be seen as a chance to really push from the off.

Meanwhile, the ladies on the Lacrosse field will be testing out the fresh meat in their league, as newly promoted Liverpool will be looking to impress at Weetwood.

Leeds finished second in the 1A last season, and will be eager to impress early on.

In the highlight of the day though, a repeat of the Varsity fixture just two weeks ago, the Hockey has drawn the Leeds city rivals together.

Having been relegated from the top division last year, Uni will be keen to repeat their Varsity showing, in their push for promotion this season.

Met will be eager to fight back after that defeat though, so expect a hard-fought derby as ever.
