Fashion I Brand Alert – Percival

Take a detour from the stresses of Oxford Circus, stroll down one of Soho’s idiosyncratic side-streets and you’ll be met with an array of curious boutiques, each of which houses its own unique apparel. One in particular that can’t help but attract attention is that of the menswear label Percival.

Emerging onto the streets of Dalston back in 2008, Percival’s design ethos was simply to produce good quality, timeless clothing that they and their peers could wear with pride. Today, the team consists of designers Chris Gove,Luke Stenzhorn, and Olivia Hegarty alongside the production and financial expertise of Orlagh Wright and Jacob Sorkin.

The Percival aesthetic takes inspiration from the most classic of men’s fashion pieces with pea coats, parkas and thigh-length macs featuring heavily in the outerwear collection. The team’s extensive background in graphic design allows them to line and trim each garment with a colourful and complex finish that comes together to form their own eccentric take on timeless fashion.

As for shirting, refined shapes are composed using sophisticated fabrics including Japanese denims and cottons. The cottons are sourced from all over the world as the team endeavour to incorporate only the finest of cloth into their collection.

Now into their eighth collection, the brand boasts a flagship store and studio on Soho’s colourful Berwick Street and is a sure sign of design skills being perfected after several years in the business. If we really have witnessed the death of the sub-culture, then it’s labels like Percival that are helping to bring back a little of the identity that the high-street stole from us.
