News | Amanda Knox retrial begins

The retrial over the murder of Leeds University student Meredith Kercher begun this week in Florence, Italy.

Kercher was found stabbed to death in 2007 whilst on a year abroad in the Italian town of Perugia.

Knox was convicted of Kercher’s murder in 2009, before the ruling was overturned in 2011.

The retrial was ordered by Italy’s Supreme Court, after the prosecution claimed key DNA evidence had been dismissed by the jury.

Knox, 26, was not required to return to Italy for the retrial, and is currently living in her hometown of Seattle.
