Leeds has the best ‘totty’ in the UK and offers the seventh best University experience in the country, surveys have found.
Leeds topped Cosmopolitan Magazine’s University ‘Totty’ league table. Published last term, the table put the University a whole ten places ahead of Leeds Metropolitan.
The recently released Times Higher Education University Experience Survey also places Leeds seventh for ‘Best Student Experience in the UK’, one spot higher than previous years. But it was the University of East Anglia took the much-coveted top spot.
Institutions are rated on a seven-point scale against 21 criteria, ranging from campus environment and student welfare to helpfulness of staff and class sizes.
Sheffield narrowly overtook Leeds to claim the highest ranked students’ union, with Leeds penalised in the ‘Cheap Shop/Bar/Amenities’ category, scoring a measly 5.3 out of 7.
The Met suffered further disappointment, sliding down the Times Higher rankings by eight places to 78th.
Out of the top 40 universities in the survey, 18 are part of the Russell Group, with four being in the top 10.
Leeds’ narrow loss in the ‘Best Union’ category will be disappointing to LUU, which has just reported the results of the ‘Rate Your Union’ survey: 93 per cent of students rated it “positively”.
