10AM: Antipodium

Antipodium

“Coffee and croissants en route, 10am called for Antipodium’s show. One for the younger crowd, Antipodium didn’t disappoint with a punchier show than ever, all about sex, lies and CCTV.

Housed at the London Film Museum, the room was void of any décor- just a double row of seats and a few uplighters- setting the scene for an urban collection with a stripped back style.

Honing in on the scrutiny of modern life, designer Geoffrey J. Finch took a more clinical aesthetic, with sharp lines, short lengths and refined silhouettes. Surveillance footage made up vivid graphic prints and colour-block ensembles stole inspiration from road signs.

“From spy cams to sex tapes, all of modern life is tracked, recorded, shared and scrutinised”. Translating reality into fashion through a slightly abstract direction, AW13 saw vinyls and leathers, and broke all the rules of the colour wheel with high-contrast, high-clash ensembles. Pink on red, on burgundy, on wine. Elsewhere there was mauve fur on shiny lilac leather. For something that sounds so wrong, it worked so well. Modern, clean, ultimately wearable.

Plastics, colours, and digital prints, Antipodium’s offering will keep confident closets happy.”
