A draw was enough for the Leeds boys to secure the League 1 title. Four points clear and playing Leeds Met, 2nd in the league, there were some slight nerves as Leeds No.2 Dave Smith was returning from a three week absence with an elbow injury. The match kicked off with the doubles at Leeds Met Carnegie.
The other two courts saw the Women’s 1sts take on Leeds Met in an important fixture that would give the Leeds girls a shot at winning their league on March 6. All four doubles matches went the way of Leeds Uni; Lottie Hayward-Cook and Aimee Kirkup coming through a close tiebreak in the 3rd set. Dave Smith and Ramzi Cherad also had a close encounter as both players lost confidence at the net following some bad misses.
The Men’s match was decided after singles 3 and 4. Billy Dainty and Ramzi Cherad winning in straight sets and securing the league for the Men’s 1st. Jennifer Smith came through her singles match winning 6-0 6-0 to win the No.1 singles for the Women’s 1st. Kirsten McArthur also won to give the girls an overall win. Men’s 3rds beat York 12-0 and Women’s 3rds beat York 8-4 so four wins out of four for Leeds Univer
