Students have expressed their disappointment over the news that the 95 ‘Bod Party Bus’ is to stop running. A spokesman for the operator said “the closure of Bodington Hall means we no longer need to run service 95, which was the main bus for the campus.”
For years, the 95 has provided an essential service, ferrying students from Bodington Hall to university, town and the railway station. “I met some of my best friends on the 95 bus,” said second-year politics student Jess Powell, “I have some really great memories of it.”
First plans to compensate for the loss of the 95 by making “significant changes to the 1 to ensure that the level of service is the same or even better.” First is also planning timetable changes including more frequent 6, 28 and 97 services on Sundays and new schedules for the X14/X15.
Speaking to Leeds Student, Communities Officer Ben Fisher said: “It’s a shame that the institution that is the 95 bus route is leaving us, but I think a £1 fare on four new routes and extended services on the number 1 definitely make up for it – it’s great to see that First have listened to what students want!” First has now extended the £1 single fare between the Parkinson Steps and the Arndale Centre in Headingley onto the 1, 6, 28 and 97 services.
