Punk-folk singer-songwriter Seán McGowan’s debut EP is an unrefined mix of politically charged lyrics, powerful vocals and aggressively strummed guitar. Opening with catchy, Jamie-T-with-a-bit-more-backbone number ‘Never Let Us In’ and moving on through more poignantly harmonised tracks like ‘£5.25’, the record encapsulates the rawness of McGowan’s talent. More variation in the vocal department would have been great, but that’s not what the music’s about – the 19-year-old’s message of “f*** the politicians, f*** all the eejits” comes across loud and clear.
