The knives are out for what could be the most hotly contested inter-collegiate competition yet: Come Dine With Me, the Leeds Edition.
Budding student hosts and hostesses from across the city are being called to represent their halls, in a take-no-prisoners match of wits, charm, and culinary nous.
In the style of the popular Channel Four television program, aspiring gastronomes are required to produce night of fine dining for fellow contestants, before being judged on their cooking and entertaining skills on a academic scale of First, to 2:2.
Organised by Leeds City Market, the twist on the classic dinner party challenge hopes to highlight how good quality, home cooking is within easy reach of even the laziest, stingiest student. Each contestant will be limited to £15 spending money for their dinner, in an effort to highlight the value of fresh produce available in the city’s regular markets.
Susan Burgess, Manager of Leeds Market, praised ‘Come Dine With Leeds’ as “a brilliant way to get students interested in the market. It’s a fun way to find out how the market can help you shop local and eat healthy for less.”
The competition will take place over a period of four nights, as the students from both the University and the Metropolitan seek to outdo each other at their Halls kitchen tables with feats of culinary daring; all will be filmed and broadcast by Leeds Metropolitan TV.
