The man accused of spying on women changing at The Edge is to be brought to court at the end of the month.

Marco Cheyne was formally charged with two counts of voyeurism last month, after being apprehended by University security. Cheyne had allegedly attempted to film a woman changing in an adjacent cubicle in the mixed-sex ‘village’ changing area at the Edge.

Cheyne has been released on conditional bail, under which he is not permitted to enter the University gym. He will appear before magistrates on November 27.

Although this is not the first case of voyeurism that has taken place at the gym, the University is keen to emphasise that these incidents are rare.

Declan Crosbie, who was arrested for similar voyeur offences in August, received a three year community service order, as well as a ban from all female and mixed-sex changing areas.

Crosbie had been caught attempting to watch members of the Chinese Olympic swimming team as they changed, adopting a female voice when confronted by security personnel.

University security officers have since increased patrols in the changing areas of The Edge to prevent future cases of spying.   Speaking last month, the University confirmed that voyeurism on campus was being treated as a matter of “utmost urgency.”
