Creepers! The platform shoes that you either love or hate! In my case im obsessed, I love a chunky statement shoe, especially a pair you can wear during the daytime. The massive crepe-soles are great for a height boost and are ideal for wear in Leeds as your feet won’t get wet when you stand in the puddles that seem to be constantly everywhere! Despite the fact that my dad used to wear them back in ‘the good ol’ days’ and they seem to be a bit of a ‘man repelling’ item, I haven’t been put off. Even the disapproving look of my male housemates when I come down the stairs in my lilac pair won’t stop me from wearing them everyday.
Having been worn by everyone from World War 2 soldiers, to Teddy Boys, to the Punks of the 70s, the Brothel creeper has become an iconic British shoe. Now they’ve been revived and reintroduced into the fashion scene, hitting the catwalks of Prada and Balenciaga, there is no denying they are the ‘it’ shoe to have at your feet this season.
Adding a pair of creepers to any outfit will instantly ‘grunge it up’ and ensure that you’re bang on trend for the coming Winter months. Luckily our high street is currently jam packed with different styles of the shoe, with the brand ‘Underground’ offering more traditional styles, to Topshop, Office and Schuh, who have so many different options for those of you who perhaps want a less dramatic style. One of the things I love about creepers is that there are so many different ways in which to wear them, whether you opt for a more ‘gothic’ look or like I personally do, wear them with frilly ankle socks for a more girly style. There is a creeper to suit everyone!

‘What are those?’ were the exact words I uttered to my friend as I looked down at her feet in disgust. For the first time in a long time, I was actually speechless. It’s been a while (precisely after the arrival of Crocs – don’t get me started) since I have fallen witness to such a fashion crime. I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Of course, I had come face to face with a pair of Creepers (as my friend soon informed me). Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge shoe-aholic and when a new fashion trend arrives on the scene I don’t tend to knock it before I’ve tried it. However, as soon as I saw the Creepers, they did more than just “creep” me out (excuse the pun). In fact, I couldn’t help but feel slightly nauseous. The chunky, flat sole and laces combo just looks so unflattering. Since when did this become a good look? I’m still struggling to come to terms with how these shoes have been deemed ‘on-trend’, but it seems that many of you have taken a liking to the Creepers. I just can’t seem to walk around Leeds without spotting countless ‘creepy’ feet. I mean, I have no choice but to be drawn to them, especially with the ever so garish patterns they come designed in. Who’d have thought they actually have the ability to make tartan and leopard print look bad? – shock! So if you want to do your feet justice, don’t jump onto the Creepers bandwagon. As you’ve probably guessed, I know I certainly won’t be.
