Maisie Peters captivates on new EP, It’s Your Bed Babe, It’s Your Funeral

Maisie Peters continues to stun listeners and melt hearts with the release of her unbelievable second EP, It’s Your Bed Babe, It’s Your Funeral.

Not many 19-year-olds can say they have achieved as much as Maisie Peters has. No, most 19-year-olds trot off to university for a debaucherous first year where realistically, the height of their achievements is a newfound ability to down Echo Falls Summer Berries. Indeed, not many 19-year-olds can claim that they have two EPs, over 3 million Spotify listeners and a sold-out tour to their name, but then there’s Maisie Peters.

The release of her second EP, It’s Your Bed Babe, It’s Your Funeral, is the cherry on the top of the cake for what has been a phenomenal year for the singer-songwriter. Experimental, but quintessentially Maisie Peters, it sees her reaching towards more vivacious, pop sounds, but still staying true to her roots with some beautiful stripped back numbers.

Peters’ strength unwaveringly lies in her lyrical mastery – her ability to weave intricate, personal stories through her lyrics is magical. ‘April Showers’ is a perfect example of this prowess; the wordplay is incredible and set against the backdrop of disjointed synth, it creates something wonderful.

‘Take Care Of Yourself’ sees a particularly tender Peters. Imploring a loved one to stop and relax and be taken care of, it’s heartfelt, soothing and bursting with affection. In an EP bristling with tales of love, ‘Take Care of Yourself’s urging for self-love is its most important.

On a more light-hearted note, ‘Adore You’ is unapologetically sentimental. An outpouring of love, it is infectious and saccharine, venturing into more decidedly pop territory. ‘Adore You’ is for the hopeless romantics, but its sweeter than honey nature will charm even the cynical amongst her fans.

Peters’ ode to her sister on ‘Personal Best’ is incontestably the standout track. Obviously, the entire EP is punctuated with her signature enchanting vocals. However, these shine more than usual on the closing track – the tentative opening notes are stunning, and as the song soars, the harmonies are breath-taking. Produced by Oh Wonder, ‘Personal Best’ is enough to reduce you to tears. Completely stripped back, this is Maisie Peters at her best: earnest, and tugging at your heartstrings.

Collectively, It’s Your Bed Babe, It’s Your Funeral is captivating. Prepare for tears, laughter at anecdotes that ‘blame the Aperol’ and everything in between – a complex and impressive second EP, it’ll have you head over heels in love with Maisie Peters in just eighteen minutes.
