Lemn Sissay: My Name is Why
The gut-wrenching insight into the turbulent life of Lemn Sissay, a celebrated author and poet begins at the Playhouse on the 7th October and tickets range from £14-17. The director allows the audience to reflect on the society through theatrical expression. Through the power of music, Sissay both confronts his traumatic past of neglect and creates unity with the audience. He tackles themes of family and what that means to the individual. This play will have you in fits of laughter and fits of rage by giving a humorous outlook on some of the UK’s most controversial topics.
The Wizard of Oz
We’re off to see the wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz! The well-loved classic is coming to the Playhouse this winter (starting 20th November). For £14, the dreary Leeds November evenings will be brimming with colour and magic! Grab your ruby slippers and join the cast in singing your heart out. As you follow your childhood favourites through their journey to the emerald city- you’ll feel like you are miles away from the chores of student mid-term life!
My Beautiful Laundrette
This highly anticipated play is set to hit The Leeds Playhouse for a limited time only! A stark portrayal of life in London during the Thatcher period, the audience witness the troubling politics and social oppression through the eyes of the protagonist Omar. The play also touches on themes of sexuality, cultural conflict and gender equality. The play is also set on the background of 80’s music and culture, giving a clear juxtaposition between life in London during that time and life now. It is a serious must see.
