Advertising itself as a day of great bands, great people and great vibes, the fifth instalment of Gigantic’s indie all-dayer is set to be nothing less than great fun for everyone who gets involved – audience and artists alike. This year’s festival takes place during the bank holiday weekend, 25th May, at Manchester Academy.
The event boasts an impressive line-up for all indie-connoisseurs – featuring The Wonder Stuff, The Bluetones and legendary headliners Echo and the Bunnymen – there will be absolutely no limit to the mass of ‘classic hits’ that are going to be performed for fans.
Post-punk poets Echo and the Bunnymen have promised audiences the best of their discography including that of ‘The Killing Moon’, ‘The Cutter’ and ‘Bring on the Dancing Horses’ while special guests, The Wonder Stuff vow to perform the second album, HUP, in it’s entirety.
Accompanying the above will also be Jesus Jones, Juliana Hatfield and Crazyhead. Having just returned from a successful world tour, Jesus Jones are armed with a brand-new album, Passages, and a well-rehearsed enigmatic stage presence so they’re readier than ever to rock audiences’ worlds with both new and old tunes. Again, Juliana Hatfield is overflowing with musical prowess with a constant presence in the indie music scene, having been a part of The Lemonheads, Some Girls and Blake Babies. She’s a force to be reckoned with and has perhaps one of the most adaptable personalities and styles in the scene. Never being out of place no matter who she’s working with, Hatfield constantly asserts herself as a star within the industry.
As if this wasn’t enough to satisfy indieheads appetites regarding Gigantic, vol. 5 also continues to show off with garage-rock band Crazyhead. After a hiatus of a prolific seventeen years, the rockers are back and better than ever vowing to give audiences a set bursting to the brim with their most bouncing, bountiful tracks.
Gigantic Vol. 5 is set to commence at 1pm on 25th of May but the excitement begins much earlier than that. Starting the day off right will be MC’s Marc and Jason Jones getting audiences ready for the endless amount of classic and nostalgic hits to come. Gigantic will also be certain to make sure nobody goes thirsty with the appearance of a real ale and cider tent – not to be missed for those who are fans of a drink alongside a show.
Last but not least, for those who don’t want the day to end, Gigantic are making sure there will be an official after party which will be exactly what it says on the tin… gigantic.
Don’t miss out on the fun and grab your tickets here.
