Avengers: Endgame Review

There should be no doubt about it, Avengers: Endgame is everything you could want and so much more. Following the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the remaining Avengers along with other surviving allies must try to defeat the Mad Titan Thanos and restore the lives of all those that he decimated, and that’s all I can really say. There are so many spoilers in this 3-hour epic that even a reasonable plot synopsis might give too much away. The cast are, as they always have been, superb. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansen, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner once again translate their off-screen chemistry perfectly as well as their chemistry with newer members Paul Rudd, Don Cheadle, Brie Larson and Karen Gillan. The anticipation and suspense building up to this film was incredible and after 11 years’ worth of storytelling, it would be an understatement to say that immense pressure was on Avengers: Endgame to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the first 3 phases of the MCU. Endgame more than delivers; it exceeds the hopes and dreams of every fan. It’s an epic and emotional joyride that calls back to iconic moments from all the way back to the MCU’s first instalment, Iron Man, through one-liners, quotes and visual ques that make all the previous 21 MCU films more special. It’s not only the action and story that make it a success, as the humour continuously lands and makes for some of the MCU’s funniest moments and one-liners. Going into this as someone who’s seen and loved all those previous films only enhances what is already an epic tale. It ties up all the leads presented throughout the history of the mosaic-like MCU in a way that is simply extraordinary. The 3rdact of this film is perhaps the best I’ve ever seen, bringing everything together in a way that sends a shot of excitement through your body. An incredible amount of respect and admiration should go to Marvel Studios’ President and MCU producer Kevin Feige, the writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus and directors Joe and Anthony Russo, as well as all those involved with crafting this film and all the MCU films. They have crafted a blockbuster that feels like a real love-letter to fans with fan-service moments that come thick and fast, and make it clear how special the MCU really is. Overall, Avengers: Endgame is quite simply sublime.
