Nottingham based singer, Ady Suleiman, played to a full room on Sunday night at The Wardrobe in Leeds. In the lead up to his performance both the support act and the DJ deserve special mention, as they got the crowd going brilliantly! Support came from Matilda Homer accompanied on keys by Isaac Waddington, who played a great set that fit perfectly with the style of music performed by Ady, and they were very warmly received by the waiting crowd. After Matilda’s performance the DJ kept the energy going right until Ady stepped on stage, playing songs such as ‘Low’ by Flo Rida, a real crowd pleaser!

Accompanied by a truly phenomenal band, Ady did not disappoint for one second! Exploding onto the stage with ‘I Remember’, the crowd joined in instantaneously and did not waver for the rest of the gig. Playing all the well-known songs from his debut album Memories, as well as the most popular tracks from his past releases, the set was a constant flow of sing, dance, and sway along tunes! Ady’s band consisted of backing vocals, bass/synth, drums, guitar and a trumpet player- all great musicians in their own right, each loving the performance just as much as the crowd. It was refreshing to see how humble the singer was as he seemed truly thankful to his band and the crowd. It was even more refreshing to hear Ady’s soulful voice live and it sound just like the record, a sadly unusual occurrence.

After leaving the stage the roaring shouts for an encore showcased the brilliant reception that Ady had received from the crowd, and thankfully Ady did not wait long to return for two more songs. Finishing with one of his older but most popular tunes, ‘State of Mind’, the gig ended on a high and many of the departing crowd stopped by the merch table to pick up a t-shirt or album on the way out.

My only wish was that Ady’s set was longer as one hour certainly left me wanting more!
