Ceon Broughton has been sentenced to eight and a half years in jail following the death of Louella Fletcher-Michie, daughter of Holby City actor, John Michie. She was found dead in woodland near the Bestival music festival in Dorset. The 30 year old musician was sentenced for manslaughter as well as three charges of supplying drugs.
Broughton, who was in a relationship with Fletcher-Michie at the time of her death, supplied the drug which killed her and recorded her as she died. Her dose of the Class A hallucinogenic drug 2CP was “bumped up” by her boyfriend which proved to be fatal.
Jurors at Winchester Crown Court were shown footage recorded by Broughton which shows Ms Fletcher-Michie repeatedly shouting to phone her mother. He also referred to Fletcher-Michie as a “drama queen” as she lay dying on the eve of her 25th Birthday. According to prosecutor William Mousley QC, Broughton did not seek medical help for her as he had received a suspended jail term one month prior to the event and feared possible repercussions.
Louella’s mother contacted Broughton at 6.48pm on the night of her death and could hear her daughter “screeching” in the background. As a result, she rushed along with her husband to the festival site to find her. She was found by a security steward just 400 meters from the festival’s hospital tent.
During the trial, an expert stated that Fletcher-Michie would have had a 90% chance of survival if she had received the necessary medical attention.
Mr Michie said in a statement: “Her life cruelly cut short. Our lives forever diminished. She was wise beyond her years and trusting, too trusting it seems”.
Fletcher-Michie’s sister, Daisy, said: “Every single day I try to understand why Ceon didn’t help Louella, the hours that passed with her getting progressively worse, even having spoken to him on the phone myself, and begging him to get her to a medical tent. Why didn’t he?”
Her mother said: “Having to learn to live with this for the rest of our lives, it’s thrown everything I believe in life into question”.
She added: “We do not think Ceon is evil. He was stupid, massively selfish and he lied”.
Broughton, a grime rapper who goes by the stage name ‘CEONRPG’ had previously plead guilty to two other charges of supplying 2CP to Fletcher-Michie at Glastonbury festival in 2017.
During sentencing, Judge Justice Goose said: “I have come to the clear conclusion you were only concerned for yourself”, adding that “whilst you were doing little to help Louella you were sending messages to a friend asking him to say that Louella had obtained the drugs from an unknown person. You were more concerned to create a defence”.
On 21st February, Broughton broke a table and damaged a water cooler after Mr Michie had shouted “evil, evil” and “not even sorry” at him whilst walking towards an exit.
Defence lawyer Stephen Kamlish read a statement to the court from Broughton which said: “Sorry I didn’t do more to save Louella, sorry for the suffering I caused to everyone who loved Louella, I want to make things right”.
