Preview: AJ Tracey, 07.04.19

Kicking off 2019 with a debut album simply wasn’t enough for AJ Tracey, as he embarks on a world tour, hitting Leeds as the second stop on Thursday 7th March. The date is already sold out and sure to be packed. His self-titled studio album AJ Tracey dropped only last month, so this year’s performances are certain to feature new bangers.

First to hit the stage for the tour’s UK and Ireland leg is Yung Fume, another West London face whose smooth, measured rapping is sure to be a complementary opener for the evening.

The world tour and polished album are a far sight from Tracey’s origins on Soundcloud, yet his roots remain clear throughout and should translate easily to the stage. However, be sure to expect a versatile show, as though Tracey is notorious for his feverish performances, some of his newer tracks follow a more chill vibe. Featured hit single ‘Psych Out!’ is notable for its more sombre tone and confessional lyricism and is sure to be heard on the night.

More tracks to expect include the ridiculously catchy 2018 breakthrough hit ‘Butterflies’, a collaboration with Not3s, summery banger that’s ideal for your Hyde Park playlist (if the sun ever returns). Contrastingly, Tracey has more recently explored his own style, particularly on ‘Ladbroke Grove’ named after his West London home, a garage beat with pitched-up backing vocals.

AJ Tracey is now available to stream so you can rehearse your rapping for Thursday. Prepare yourselves yatties, it’s gonna be a big one.
