The transfer window of January 2019 has officially closed and it is now time to ask the question whether teams, players and fans are satisfied with the deals made.
It has been proven difficult this year in order to get the quality of player through the January window. For many clubs this is because they have been so reluctant to sell.
Deadline day saw the sealing of 12 deals totalling at 50 million which meant the overall spending over January was £180 million in comparison to the £430 million spent just the year before. This huge fall is the first decline in revenue spent since 2012.
10 of the 20 premier league teams did not spend a penny, with Everton, Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs and Southampton not bringing anybody in.
The premier league however was still the highest spending league in the January window. The biggest deal made was by Chelsea who bought Brouissa Dortmund striker Christian Pulisic for £58 million. However, the 20 year old will stay on loan with the German club until he arrives at Chelsea at the end of the season.
The window may not be seen too kind for Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi. The 18 year old was not allowed to join the German giants Bayern Munich for what was estimated £35 million. Chelsea will now be in the process of convincing the young star that Stamford Bridge is the place for him.
Newcastle broke their transfer record signing Paraguay Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United for £21m beating their last big spending of Real Madrid Michael Owen back in 2005.
Wolves managed to seal the deal with full-back Jonny Castro Otto from Athletico Madrid after his very successful loan spell since the summer. This permanent transfer until 2023 is an exciting time for wolves after impressing both manager and fans during his 20 Premier League appearances this season.
The most romantic signing of the window is given to Peter Crouch on his return to the premier league after a late deal with Burnley. For the 38 year old striker he will hope to add to his 108 goals and 462 premier league performances. Part of the deal means that Sam Vokes will go in the other direction, singing a three year contract at Stoke.
A late deal after the midnight mark rereleased that Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi will be retuning back to London after signing for Crystal Palace on loan till the end of the seasons.
The transfer window however will be remembered for the sad loss of recently signed striker Emiliano Sala from Nantes to Cardiff, who’s plane sadly went missing only 4 days after he signed for the Bluebirds.
Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has also recently signed a pre-contract worth £36 million, where he will join Juventus on a 5 year deal at the end of the season. It is said that the 28 year old will be set to earn over £400,000 a week making him Juventus’s second highest earner. This move will exemplify a crucial moment in Ramseys career.
