Doctor Who Escape Hunt – Review

Last week the UK’s first ever Doctor Who themed escape room opened in Leeds. Endorsed by the BBC, the game features exact replications of all things ‘who’ such as costumes, props and the characters themselves!

The game is titled ‘Worlds Collide’ and features a battle with one of The Doctor’s arch enemies: The Cybermen. Teams of six are given the chance to save the world in the offices of ChronosCorp HQ where the billionaire Alistair Montague has attempted to develop commercial time travel but has instead caused a tear in the fabric of space and time.

As a huge fan of Doctor Who ever since Russel T. Davies’ revival in 2005, I jumped at the chance to go and test out the game. Without giving too much away, this escape room did not fail to impress. Filled with Doctor Who themed ‘easter eggs’ throughout, we had 60 minutes to negotiate our way through a variety of highly stimulating as well as complex tasks and codebreakers. The tasks had something for every type of thinker, ranging from the more physical to the astutely logical.

Finally escaping from the room with one minute and thirty-three seconds to spare, the finale of the game was fast-paced and very exciting. Our ‘Games Master’, Amy, definitely added to our experience as she was incredibly engaging and enthusiastic.

The game, too, featured a pre-recorded message from the current Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, which also enhanced the game. All in all, this is an absolute must for any whovian who’s dreamed of being enlisted as a companion of The Doctor. You even get the chance to use the iconic Sonic Screwdriver!

‘Worlds Collide’ is the latest game from BBC Studios and Escape Hunt and can be found in the upstairs of The Light, Leeds.
