Unfortunately, I must check out from Gryphon HQ now. It’s been great fun, and if we get a Dan James sized update, I will rush back to satisfy your Leeds United transfer needs.
I hope I gave Jim White a run for his money.
Farewell folks,
Cian

DONE DEAL
It may not be a big name, but we have a done deal!
27-year-old Leandro Bacuna has joined Cardiff City for a reported £3million. The midfielder will join Neil Warnock’s side from Reading.
16:36
DEAL OFF?
According to Sky sources, Everton have reportedly ruled out a move for Michy Batshuayi.
16:33
Youri Tielemans is at the King Power Stadium right now.
For my own sanity, I hope this means a deal will be announced very soon.
Leicester will gain the Monaco midfielder’s services on loan.
16:29
The transfer aficionados among you will be well aware that the German window closes at 5pm, therefore, Arsenal’s loan move for their youngster Emile Smith Rowe looks set to be pushed close. It is hoped his switch to RB Leipzig will be confirmed imminently.
16:04
We’ve hit a bit of a lull here people, but not to worry, as this pause allow us to take a look back on the biggest stories of the transfer window so far.
Starting on a sombre note. Emiliano Sala was expected to join Cardiff City this month from Nantes, but on January 21st, the plane carrying the Argentine went missing above the English Channel. The plane is still yet to surface, and the footballing world has been rocked by this tragedy, as the 28-year-old and the pilot aboard the plane are still missing today. Our thoughts are with everyone connected to this tragedy, one that truly brought the footballing world to a standstill.
The transfer window rolled on, however, and some big names have moved this January.
Gonzola Higuain joined up with his former manager Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea from Juventus. Higuain joined on loan and will hope to recapture his stellar form under Sarri at Napoli for the Blues. Linked to the same deal, Alvaro Morata has joined Atletico Madrid from Chelsea on loan till the end of the season.
Big money transfers have taken place too. As Chelsea have flexed their financial muscle once again in January, signing Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund for a reported £58 million. The American will join up next season, finishing this season at Dortmund.
In Spain, Barcelona secured their biggest move of January – as they paid Ajax a reported £75 million for 21-year-old midfielder Frenkie de Jong. Manchester City were apparently very interested in the highly rated Dutch sensation, but he decided to join Barcelona on a five-year deal.
15:48
Non-transfer related news here, but Kyle Walker’s Twitter fingers continue to cause controversy.
Kyle, or his social media team, tweeted this after title rivals Liverpool drew at home to Leicester thanks to a Harry Maguire goal:
He has since deleted it. And yes, as you can probably tell, it’s gone a bit quiet on the transfer side of things.
15:44
Sean Dyche has confirmed the Peter Crouch-Sam Vokes swap deal we reported on earlier today. The Burnley manager said in his press conference just now, “As for Peter, he has a hunger to come here and make a mark. We know he’s a good character and he still has a desire. The main thing for me is having motivated people”.
Welcome back to the Premier League, Peter Crouch! (I wonder what this means for his podcast)
15:39
Willian is staying at Chelsea it appears. According to BBC Sport’s Richard Conway, there is no deal likely between Chelsea and PSG today. So Chelsea are set to have both Hudson-Odoi and Willian at the club for the foreseeable future.
15:33
One that slipped under the radar – by design or not – is Manchester City’s £7 million swoop for Hadjuk Split teenager Ante Palaversa. The Midfielder will immediately rejoin the Croatian club on loan for the remainder of this season and next season as well, when he will hope to eventually fight for a place in Manchester – good luck to him.
15:27
Everton’s enigmatic forward Yannick Bolasie is reportedly on his way out of Goodison, with Anderlecht interested in bringing the Congolese winger to Belgium.
For those wondering what Bolasie has been up to in recent months, he has been on loan at Aston Villa, but chose to cut his loan deal in Birmingham short in order to force his way back into Marco Silva’s plans. Things have not gone well, however, and Bolasie looks set to leave once again on loan.
15:20
Fulham, Fulham, Fulham.
Looks like Claudio Ranieri is unhappy with his options in defence, and who can blame him? The West London side have conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season – 53 goals against them in 24 games.
As a result, according to Sky Sports, Fulham are pursuing three defensive signings before the window slams shut this evening, alongside the Cameroonian Ngadeu-Ngadjui, Ranieri has approached Youssouf Sabaly and Havard Nordtveit.
We’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
15:16
Looks like Callum Hudson-Odoi is staying put. Bayern have said that there will be no further action on their end, therefore, keeping the 18-year-old at Stamford Bridge for now.
15:05
DONE DEAL
Spurs fans, welcome to Transfer Deadline Day. Your very own Georges-Kevin Nkoudou is on his way out of White Hart Lane (Wembley), as the French winger has joined a Thierry Henry-less Monaco for the remainder of the season.
Seems an interesting one with Tottenham’s current injury dilemmas, but the return of Heung-Min Son from the Asia Cup has bolstered their options after injuries to Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
15:00
I can’t keep up, the news is coming in thick and fast here at Gryphon HQ.
Youri Tielemans is close to a loan move to Leicester City from Monaco. Adrien Silva appears to be heading in the opposite direction.
The Belgian midfielder has long been highly rated, with reported interest from Spurs at one stage, and Leicester will hope Tielemans can propel them up the league, with the Foxes currently sitting in 11th.
14:58
DAN JAMES NEWS!
Finally, we have an update people, the Swansea man – according to various media outlets – is undergoing a medical ahead of his move to Leeds United.
A deal is close and we will be sure to let you know how this one pans out.
14:45
Catching up on what we missed over the last hour:
Our Sports Editor Will Pickworth will be interested to learn that Stevenage have signed young Fulham striker Elijah Adebayo on loan for the rest of the season.
Staying with Fulham, it appears that Cameroon captain Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui is on his way to Craven Cottage. The defender currently plays for Slavia Prague and is expected in West London shortly for his switch to the Premier League.
And Aston villa have confirmed their deal for Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings
14:40
DONE DEAL
And we’re back. Newcastle United have announced their club-record signing Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United for around £21.5 million, the Paraguayan will join Rafa Benitez’s side with hopes that Andreas Samaris will follow later as well.
13:30
On that note, I’m off to get some lunch, and hopefully when I get back, we’ll have some updates on Dan James and Leeds United.
13:21
And there you have it, as we suggested earlier, Manchester United have just announced Anthony Martial’s new contract. A dramatic turnaround for the Frenchman who looked set to leave the club under Jose Mourinho.
As a Manchester United fan, that it the best news we could have hoped for today; his comments on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also make interesting reading: “I would like to thank Ole and his coaching staff for their belief in me and for helping me take my game to the next level”. A penny for a certain Portuguese man’s thoughts?
13:13
DONE DEAL
Newcastle United have announced defender Antonia Barreca’s loan deal now, which includes an option to buy should the Italian perform well in Tyneside.
13:09
Looks like Manchester United are set to announce Anthony Martial’s new contract, keeping the Frenchman at Old Trafford till 2024. This is his management team’s story on Instagram earlier…
12:54
The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.. After Denis Suarez’s loan transfer, it appears that Arsenal’s proposed interest in Yannick Carrasco and Ivan Perisic is over, both will stay at Dalian Yifang and Inter Milan respectively.
12:50
A bit of local news for you. Sheffield United have signed Scott Hogan on loan from Aston Villa. Could be a good one, a change of scenery for the striker after his struggles at Villa.
12:41
Looks to be all but confirmed officially that Barreca is a Newcastle United player…
12:33
It looks set to be a good few days for Newcastle, who defeated the champions Man City on Tuesday night, and appear likely to wrap up not one, not two, but THREE Deadline Day signings!
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are hoping to sign Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris and Monaco left-back Antonia Barreca on loan, alongside the club-record transfer of Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United.
12:25
Staying with Chelsea, the Callum Hudson-Odoi saga continues to roll on.
The winger has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, and a move appeared likely when the 18-year-old handed in a transfer request. But, Chelsea remain adamant the highly rated youngster is staying at Stamford Bridge – for now at least.
Hudson-Odoi was left out of Chelsea’s squad that lost 4-0 to Bournemouth last night, and the player’s grievance at his lack of playing time will remain an issue if he stays at the club past this evening.
12:19
Michy Batshuayi.. would it be a Transfer Deadline Day without him.
This time last year, the Belgian forward moved to Borussia Dortmund on loan, and the Chelsea player is once again linked with a loan move to West Ham and Real Betis. Everton remain keen on signing the striker permanently, however, with the Toffees told to cough up £35 million for the 25-year-old.
This will be one to keep an eye on as Chelsea’s extensive loan operation continues.
12:10
DONE DEAL
Arsenal have got their man – on loan – as Denis Suarez joins Unai Emery’s side till the end of the season. The player worked under Emery in Sevilla so Arsenal fans will be hoping he can slot right in for his former manager.
In terms of the announcement: Winky face/ 10
12:02
Our very own Sports Editor and Swansea fan James Felton has weighed in on the Dan James saga…
11:58
How could I forget Newcastle’s club record transfer!
The Magpies are set to announce Miguel Almiron very shortly – the Atlanta United midfielder has been spotted at the training ground ahead of his final medical assessments. A fee over £20 million has been agreed. This will, therefore, break Newcastle’s transfer record, which was the £16.5 million they paid for Michael Owen in 2005 – a long time coming eh?
11:40
I’m hearing that the latest on Dan James is that Leeds and the player are both pushing for a move, with the player interested in playing for Marcelo Bielsa. A fee of around £5 million was mooted but now a loan with an obligation to buy is being discussed between the two clubs.
Here is what Stuart James of the Guardian had to say on it all:
11:20
A quick round-up of what has happened so far:
It looks like Manchester United’s maligned midfielder Marouane Fellaini is heading out of Old Trafford to Chinese Super League team Shandong Luneng, whether this is finalised today remains to be seen, but Ole Gunnar Solksjaer appears to have sanctioned the move for the Belgian who was brought to Manchester in 2014.
A Burnley-Stoke swap deal looks to be in the making today, with Peter Crouch joining Sean Dyche’s side and Sam Vokes heading in the opposite direction, according to Sky sources.
Arsenal’s loan swoop for Barcelona youngster Denis Suarez should be completed in the coming hours, with the former Manchester City midfielder joining the Gunners to boost their attacking options.
It wouldn’t be a Transfer Deadline Day without a speculative approach from everyone’s favourite French club, PSG, who are reportedly interested in Chelsea’s Willian and Everton’s Idrissa Gueye.
