Students at the University of Leeds continued to be turned away from numerous University Buildings this morning, due to health and safety concerns over a recent power cut.
The power cut occurred on the morning of Wednesday 5th December, as “an incident at an off-site power substation” saw many students vacated from their early-morning library spots.
The University of Leeds issued an update this morning, warning students to steer clear of the buildings for the time being:
“Buildings affected by yesterday’s power outage remain closed and staff and students based in them on a Thursday should not yet travel in.
“Work continues to reconnect them and we hope that the majority of buildings affected will reopen around midday, once essential checks have been carried out. Once we have received confirmation we will update this website.”
The buildings affected by the power cuts were:
- E C Stoner
- Brotherton Library
- The Parkinson Building
- Chemistry
- The Baines Wing
- The Michael Sadler Building
- Physics Deck
- Botany House
- The Workshop Theatre
- Education
- English
- Media and Communication
- Part of Clothworkers Central
- Music
The University of Leeds hopes to restore power to most buildings by midday, and has advised certain students to sit tight until that point.
