On October 12th, Mint Warehouse with Dirty Disco & Set One Twenty laid on a fantastic night, letting loose two electronic music legends, Floating Points and Mr. Scruff.
Excitement for this one was high and queues were long with students eagerly awaiting in anticipation for the pair’s marathon, back-to-back, 6-hour-set. It seemed only fair that such an idyllic setting played host to two of the finest DJs around.
Obliterated by an impressive Funktion-One sound system, the ears of the party-goers were treated to a delightfully eclectic mix of some of the grooviest tracks around. Floating Points not only has a PhD in neuroscience and epigenetics, he is also renowned in the electronic music scene, and graced us with his gritty funk, break-beats and spiritual techno. Feet were tapping all night long, whilst tunes floated in and out of orchestral compositions, keeping the atmosphere alive and dancers in high spirits. Mr. Points took great control of the crowd, and his desire to continue his experimental set was mutually acknowledged, respected and complimented by Mr. Scruff.
Andrew Carthy, better known as Mr. Scruff has had an incredible summer travelling Europe, playing at the likes of Dekmantel Selectors and Gottwood. His long-standing experience in playing extended sets had set the bar high but also left us slightly unsure of what to expect. The night saw him going down a disco and deep house route, akin to his partner in crime for the night.
Overall the pair worked like clockwork, smoothly and delicately working together in an impressive back-to-back set in which they were exotic compliments. With the glitter ball in full swing, they were a perfect match in the ultimate disco harmony.
With Mint Warehouse having an autumn and winter line up like no other, we can’t wait to return to the simple yet still exciting warehouse all term long.
