October 22nd kicks off official curry week, so we’ve put together a list of some of the best places to get your tikka fix. Whether you’re on a budget or splashing out, these are sure to spice up your week.

 

1. The Cat’s Pyjamas

With two restaurants, one in Headingley and the other in Eastgate, there’s no excuse to miss this fantastic Indian street-food inspired experience. The Headingley restaurant is cosy and relaxed, it even serves great craft beer to go along with the authentic spices.  With a wide variety of fantastic vegetarian options (especially the paneer), The Cat’s Pyjamas is one not to miss.

2. Jino’s Thai Cafe

Another staple in the Headingley area, Jino’s is known for its aromatic Thai green curries. This family owned restaurant is chilled and relaxed, and best of all it’s BYOB (bring your own booze), so if you’re on a budget you can bring along your Aldi own brand alcohol shame-free. Even better, Jino’s is linked with Just-Eat, so if you really can’t bear to part with your pyjamas, they’ll deliver your curry right to your door.

3. Kerala Restaurant

Bang in the centre of Leeds, Kerala Restaurant is the place to go for authentic South Indian cuisine. For a very reasonable price, it offers all the wonderful spices and unique flavours of Kerala style cooking. The restaurant itself is homely and friendly; particularly impressive are the beautiful dishes that each meal is served in, and when chicken korma is just £8.99 there’s really no reason not to go.

 

4. Akmal’s Tandoori Bistro

Chances are, you’ve probably walked past Akmal’s a thousand times – its located on the edge of Hyde Park, right on Otley Road. Akmal himself tends to greet every customer personally at the door, this student-friendly restaurant is embedded in Leeds University culture, so if you get worn out half way through an Otley run this tasty and affordable restaurant should be your next stop.

5. MyLahore

MyLahore is a fresh and modern Indian-British fusion restaurant in the heart of Leeds (there’s also one in Bradford if you’re further out.) Inside the restaurant is colourful and vibrant, and you’re guaranteed a fast and friendly service. The food is outstanding, they even have a great selection of cakes to have if you need to cool off after your curry. Almost everything on the menu is less than £10, making MyLahore one of the best places for a meal out with your broke student mates.
